Luc Capaldi, a PhD student in the Tertuliano Lab, has received the “Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award in Mechanical Engineering” for the Spring 2024 semester. Capaldi was honored for his exemplary contributions as the teaching assistant for MEAM 3330: Heat and Mass Transfer.
In the nomination letter, Jennifer Lukes, Professor in MEAM, praised Capaldi’s exceptional dedication and teaching skills. Capaldi excelled in engaging students during office hours and recitations, with many students expressing their enthusiasm at having him as a TA for a second semester. Students particularly valued Capaldi’s attentive approach, his patience, his ability to pace problem-solving sessions effectively, and his keen understanding of potential difficulties students might face.
“Luc made a point in recitation to point out real life applications of heat transfer, like in his own research on laser sintering,” says one student. “I always appreciate the TAs sharing their expertise and application in the field because it motivates me to get a deeper understanding of the course material.”
The Outstanding TA Award in Mechanical Engineering recognizes the vital role that teaching assistants like Luc Capaldi play in the educational experience at Penn Engineering.
