We extend a warm welcome to Samantha McBride, our newest member of the mechanical engineering faculty, serving as the William K. Gemmill Term Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering. Fueled by an innate curiosity to unravel the complexities of systems, McBride brings a wealth of knowledge and commitment to addressing global challenges through her research, which converges at the intersection of small-scale fluid mechanics, interfacial phenomena, and environmental engineering.
McBride’s impact extends beyond research as she introduces a new course, MEAM 5620, on Water Treatment Engineering. This semester, students will explore water treatment technologies from a thermal-fluids perspective, emphasizing the vital humanitarian and environmental justice aspects of water engineering.
As McBride integrates into our academic community, her dedication to sustainability goes beyond her research. From commuting by bike to adhering to a strict vegetarian lifestyle, her commitment shines through. She also finds joy in hiking, exploring the outdoors, reading fantasy or non-fiction science literature, and cherishing moments with her furry companion, Bernoulli, the bernedoodle.
