Two doctoral students from the Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics department earned recognition in the area of mechanics at the Society of Engineering Science (SES) conference.
Sage Fulco (right), a doctoral student in the Turner Research Group, earned first place with his poster “Enhancing Toughness via Geometry and Architected Plasticity.” His work focuses on fortifying materials against failure through innovative geometries, promising safer and more resilient structures.
Riti Sharma (left), a doctoral student in the Tertuliano Lab, received the third-place award for her poster “Spatially Dependent Dynamic Properties of Bone Microstructure in Osteoarthritis.” The Tertuliano Lab’s pioneering work uses synchrotron X-ray tomography to visualize bone in 3D at unprecedented scales.
The SES conference not only provided a platform for these scholars to showcase groundbreaking research but also facilitated valuable interactions with seasoned professionals in their respective fields.
